Community Service
Toastmasters also benefit their communities by conducting
the following types of programs:
YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
YLP is a public-speaking training for junior and high school
students. Lagoon conducted a YLP program for the Delhi Private
School, Sharjah in October 2003 & another YLP for the
children of Kerala Engineering Alumni members in August 2004.
SPEECHCRAFT
Speech craft is a “short course” in public speaking
for adults in business, education, industry and government.
Lagoon conducted two Speech Crafts for the members of Kerala
Engineering Alumni in December & February 2004 which resulted
in the formation of Creek & Burj Toastmasters Clubs.
SPEAKERS BUREAU helps other nonprofit organizations
and community and government groups tell their stories to
the community.
GAVEL CLUBS brings Toastmasters training
to institutions. Lagoon Toastmasters’ contribution was
vital in the formation of two Gavel Clubs in Sharjah viz.
the TKMCE Gavel Club and the Delhi Private School Gavel Club.
SUCCESS/LEADERSHIP and SUCCESS/COMMUNICATION
PROGRAMS are educational modules in a how-to format
on topics such as conducting productive meetings, effective
listening, parliamentary procedure, evaluation, creative thinking,
leadership, management and training. These programs are conducted
in Lagoon Club, at least once a month.
